Mission Statement
AIC – International Association of Charities – is a network of 100,000 local volunteers, mainly women, who work in their communities to tackle all forms of poverty and exclusion and build a fairer world for everyone. AIC is active in 56 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Europe and the United States. Following the example of St Vincent de Paul, AIC seeks to be a force for change within society. AIC works primarily with women, through empowering projects and actions that involve the participation of the beneficiaries, allowing them to generate positive change in their own lives. AIC collaborates with other organizations and is involved in advocacy work within public policy and civil society programs, in order to ensure that the voices of disadvantaged people are heard at international level.
About This Cause
AIC is a network of 100,000 female volunteers who are committed to supporting the world’s most disadvantaged women. The volunteers work locally in 56 countries on 4 continents to bring women’s projects to life, empowering them so that they can escape the vicious cycle of poverty and take control of their lives and futures. AIC was founded by St Vincent de Paul over 400 years ago and the volunteers continue to be inspired by his intuition and spirituality today. Since the challenges faced by people living in poverty evolve over time, the volunteers are constantly innovating to find creative ways to provide practical support to disadvantaged families as they build better lives for themselves. The volunteers’ actions are highly diverse, as they are designed to meet the specific needs of each local community. Many AIC actions have an educational element, as education is often a pathway to overcoming poverty. AIC projects can also cover fields including nutrition and health; housing; peace and citizenship; sustainable development, and the social integration of migrants and elderly and isolated people. The volunteers listen and share with the beneficiaries and encourage them to take an active role in the development of projects whenever possible. At international level, AIC coordinates its network and offers training in 6 languages to the local volunteers, ensuring best practices are shared across countries and continents. To advance the cause of the most disadvantaged women and bring them the promise of a brighter future, AIC also makes their voices heard through testimonies and videos that denounce injustices. AIC is represented in several major international organizations: ECOSOC in New York, UNESCO in Paris, and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
