About This Cause
The lrish name 'Cuidiú' means 'care and support'. We are a volunteer run organisation whose aim is provide education and support for parenthood - from bump, babe, toddler and tot to teen. With our ongoing activities in 20+ nationwide branches and our trained volunteers (antenatal teachers, breastfeeding counsellors & parent to parent supporters), we empower parents through knowledge and mutual support to make informed choices in pregnancy, childbirth, infant feeding and parenthood. We provide this support by providing: • Antenatal Childbirth and Early Parenting Education - We provide training to childbirth educators and /or antenatal teachers who then in turn provide education within communities in various formats and classes which are fully supported and promoted locally and within the organisation. • Post-Natal Support - The provision of post-natal and parent-to-parent peer support including the establishment of self-help groups and parent support groups affording companionship and support of informed choices through parenthood. Our Parent to Parent Support services provide supports to parents who may be feeling a parenting low, depression, suffering from post-natal depression, or just wanting to talk about the ups and downs of parenting. • Breastfeeding Support - We train breastfeeding counsellors to promote, protect and support breastfeeding by providing ante-natal and post-natal evidenced based information and supporting parents by providing telephone counselling support and local breastfeeding support groups. • Provision of Bump, Baby and Toddler groups throughout the Country. In turn providing a safe supportive and welcoming community for all parents and carers.
