Mission Statement
That every child and adult with a long term disability, or challenging medical condition, is able to benefit from a specially trained assistance dog.
About This Cause
Support Dogs train highly skilled assistance dogs which enable adults to take control of their lives again, living independently and with confidence; and empower children to make the journey into an independent adulthood without limits. From humble beginnings, Support Dogs are now an internationally recognised charity and a growing team and a growing demand on our services. Our charity runs three life changing programmes: Epilepsy Seizure Alert Programme: Seizure alert dogs provide a client with a 100% reliable warning up to 50 minutes in advance of an epileptic seizure, providing safety and enabling independence. Autism Assistance Programme: Autism assistance dogs are trained to provide safety and to facilitate a more independent and socially inclusive life, both for the child with autism and their family. Disability Assistance Programme: Disability assistance dogs are trained to improve independence for people whose physical disability significantly reduces their quality of life. This includes raising an alarm in an emergency, opening doors, picking up objects and assisting with dressing.
