About This Cause
The first five years of a child’s life are the most important in shaping their future. During this time, children need nurturing and care from their parents and caregivers. The quality of the relationships that surround children, as well as a positive home environment, are key to promoting wellbeing, healthy relationships and school success later in life. Home-Start's preventative, early intervention approach acknowledges that every parent should have the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life. Through our home-visiting service and group activities we provide tailored practical and emotional support to families who may be struggling with poor mental or physical health, isolation, postnatal depression or financial and housing difficulties, preventing them from slipping into crisis. Home-Start volunteers work alongside parents to build on their strengths, supporting and empowering them to form vital connections with their children and local community. Our tailored, responsive support helps families to feel less isolated and better able to cope. Parents tell us that the amount of time and understanding they are offered through our service sets us apart from other organisations.
