Mission Statement
We use joy, adventure and the outdoors to transform the mental health of particularly disadvantaged London children. Our projects support exceptionally vulnerable young people, most used to feeling excluded, unwanted, failing or 'broken', to instead experience themselves as brave, proud, valued and successful, often for the first time in a long time. Our unique residential approach allows us to spend more time with a 'hard to reach' child in one week than a Social Worker can in one year, in turn, transforming the most vulnerable children's belief in their own potential and helping them change their stories about who they are, and who they can be.
About This Cause
We are a small specialist local children's charity, helping particularly disadvantaged children from London change their stories about who they are, and who they can be. We do this predominantly by taking children out of London for residential projects based in powerful outdoor settings. Through nightwalks in the woods, building rafts and paddling across lakes, cooking together in groups, camping out under the stars and a host of other activities, we help children used to feeling different, rejected and that they can't succeed, to instead experience feeling adventurous, proud, talented and successful. For those most in need, we offer follow-on year round support through our London based mentoring programme, returning respite projects and our intensive, 18 month long 'Journey Programme' which addresses the mental and emotional health needs of higher risk teenagers. We also operate a Young Leaders programme, which trains and supports teenagers who have attended our projects and shown exceptional leadership potential, to return as peer mentors and role models for younger children.
