Mission Statement

We aim to make looking after our minds as natural as brushing our teeth, by equipping everyone with the knowledge and tools to take care of their mental health and wellbeing, and campaigning for greater awareness and support for public mental health.

About This Cause

Mindapples is a mental health charity that focusses on educating people about their minds and helping them to live healthier, happier lives. Our vision is of a world where taking care of our minds is natural and normal for everyone, and we make that a reality by sharing knowledge and encouraging stigma-free, practical conversations about the positive side of mental health. We began as a grassroots campaign, first online and then at festivals and in workplaces, promoting simple day-to-day actions for mental wellbeing. In 2018 we established Mindapples as a charity to enable us to focus our resources on making mental health education available to all young people. We have worked with healthcare providers, schools, universities and workplaces to develop a pioneering mental health education programme that draws out young people’s knowledge, ideas and experiences and shares these with their peers. Our participant led programme gives people the inspiration and skills to understand and look after their minds, the benefits of which last a lifetime. Our programme covers many topics about wellbeing and self-awareness, from the basics like improving mental wellbeing and managing stress, to more advanced subjects like emotional intelligence, resilience, habit-forming, decision-making and supporting others. We take our programmes into schools, colleges, and youth settings to reach young people in places where they feel comfortable, and run wider public health programmes and services. We are increasingly targeting young people facing disadvantage because they have most to gain from our programmes. We deliver our youth programmes through those who are trusted by young people, such as teachers, youth workers and peer advocates. This approach drives young people’s engagement while also inspiring everyone to work together to create an environment in which their mental health can flourish. Our train-the-trainer programme (which we call Mindapples Champion’s Training) teaches organisations and individuals to deliver our mental health education programmes themselves. It equips them with the knowledge and tools to customise and deliver the content for the young people they work with and the skills to deliver our training repeatedly. By training others to deliver our programme, our approach is cost efficient and easier to scale. We have been developing our tools for many years and with the involvement of many partners. We have gathered extensive evidence of the positive impact of our work over the years, and our programmes have performed well in controlled trials and independent evaluations. We can deliver impact at scale, reaching 10,000s of people at low cost by building capacity in the people and organisations that support them, and by tapping into the skills of our audiences and beneficiaries. Most of our work has been in the UK, but our digital training and event packs mean we can support partners in any location, subject to relevant export and logistical considerations. We have supported organisations in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, mainland Europe, India and the Middle East through our partnerships and volunteers. Please contact us for more information about our work, impact and current priorities. We'd love to hear from you.
