Mission Statement
NEAM encourages creativity, nurtures community, and promotes wellbeing in Battersea, bringing together creatives, businesses, voluntary sector, and residents. We provide creative opportunities for residents across the demographic, to nurture their wellbeing and engage with arts and culture hyper-locally – providing encounters that build community cohesion. Believing that creativity is central to building healthy, vibrant, and inclusive communities, we aim to help this rapidly changing area become a place of joy, hospitality and wellbeing for all who live, work or study here. Whilst underpinned by the Christian faith, our projects are actively welcoming and inclusive to those of all faiths and none.
About This Cause
Nine Elms Arts Ministry has been creating free arts events and bringing people together in Nine Elms, Battersea since 2018, and became a registered charity in 2023. We believe that nurturing arts, creativity and spirituality are central to building healthy, vibrant and inclusive communities - creating spaces of joy, hospitality and wellbeing for everyone. We are all about collaboration. We partner with local artists & creatives, residents, community groups, schools, faith groups, cultural organisations, developers and business brands to ensure our events are both high-quality and truly rooted in our community. We help nurture community and develop the creative soul of this rapidly changing area of London. Creative Soul, our free arts and wellbeing programme, formally launched in 2022. The programme includes Creative Soul Dance - weekly movement for wellbeing sessions, which, along with self-referrals, receives referrals from GP Link workers and has a strong track record in addressing physical and mental health issues and social isolation. Creative Soul Café, our regularly oversubscribed art and craft wellbeing sessions, bring residents from different parts of the demographic together around creative activities in a range of local venues. The sessions nurture individual wellbeing and build community connection and cohesion across the wide demographic. There is also a developing Creative Soul Café parents programme and Creative Soul Café in the workplace. We also undertake large-scale collaborative projects. We were the founders of the award-winning Create and Learn Play Kits (WBC were a key partner) which saw 10,000 creative kits distributed to families most in need during the pandemic. Our Nine Elms Advent Calendar Art Trail, provides commissions for local artists and a free quality art trail for residents and visitors, it ran in 2019, 2020 and 2021, the final year brought together 70 individual and organisational collaborators, and featured in the top 10 things to do at Christmas in Time Out. In autumn 2023 NEAM were invited to partner with Porsche Retail in the Porsche NOW pop up at Battersea Power Station, creating an exhibition of local female artists and a programme of creative wellbeing workshops as part of a seven week residency. The charity has partnered with art'otel, London Battersea Power Station with a 5 week Christmas Community Art Studio programme - which included a giant mural, an exhibition of 10 other artists work and an open studio for adults and children. The ministry has a small creative prayer community. Whilst underpinned by the Christian faith, our projects are actively welcoming and inclusive to those of all faiths and none.
