Mission Statement
Founded in 1989, Ma-Yi Theater Company is a Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose primary mission is to develop and produce new and innovative plays by Asian American writers. Since its founding, Ma-Yi has distinguished itself as one of the country’s leading incubators of new work shaping the national discourse about what it means to be Asian American today.

Ma-Yi Theater Company is a professional not-for-profit theater created to develop and present challenging new plays and performance works that essay the evolving Asian American experience. Ma-Yi Theater has distinguished itself as one of the country's leading incubators of new plays. Our mission is to produce new works for the theater by providing a home for artists to hone individual and collective skills, investigate new ways of working together, and engage their communities in dialogues about their roles as citizens in a changing world.
