About This Cause

Purpose: Each year Trabajadores Unidos-Workers United, holds our annual two day political education program--Escuela de Dignidad or Dignity School in english! Escuela de Dignidad incorporates culture and political education to support the leadership of low-wage workers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Where we aim to educate on systems of oppression within capitalism, making it relevant to workers lives. Under Covid 19: We are under unprecedented times andSan Francisco immigrant workers have been excluded from many governmental aid programs. There are so many things to learn from this pandemic, and one thing that TUWU is witnessing is the resilience in our immigrant latinx working class! TUWU holds a strong membership of low wage workers in San Francisco, who want to take this time to learn more about their rights during these difficult times and are really curious in re-discovering their abilities to organize themselves and be part of the fight whether its standing in solidarity with black lives, lobbying for labor laws that will positively impact the immigrant community, or creating strong bridges of communication around resources with each other. Working class immigrant workers want to organize and grow their skills! There's a digital divide that can and will get in the way of workers becoming strong advocates for themselves and their community. Many members of TUWU don’t have access to the internet or a computer. The need: Many of the times TUWU members use their phones to join a meeting on Zoom or use their facebook to be part of our streaming Facebook programming, and quickly use up their phone data. Dignity School this year will be held for 5 Sundays (Oct 4-Nov1) for 4 hours each session. Accessibility to the internet and computers are a barrier to many TUWU members since any extra money that they hold goes directly to food and shelter. We are reaching out to community members and ask for support in connecting us to 10 laptops,or computers that will allow TUWU members to be fully engaged in Dignity School and going BEYOND looking at a small phone screen!
