Mission Statement

High Water Women is focused on providing enriched educational opportunities for low-income youth and the economic empowerment of women and children.

About This Cause

High Water Women (HWW) is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2005 by women in the hedge fund and investment industries to promote the economic empowerment of women and youth. HWW provides unique programs in financial literacy, impact investing and initiatives for low-income children, including our annual backpack drive, that directly benefit our partners - non-profit organizations, schools and public agencies – and the clients they serve. Much of our program work is conducted by professionals from the financial and legal communities who volunteer for HWW programs and directly with HWW nonprofit partners. Today, approximately 3500 business professionals participate in a wide range of philanthropic and volunteer driven programs and events. As an extension of our thought leadership in values-based investing, in 2013, HWW launched an Impact Investing initiative with annual Symposia for Family Offices, Foundations, Endowments and other Investors. Financial Literacy In today’s complex financial world, it is increasingly important for low income youth and adults to develop successful financial skills. Learning the fundamentals of earning an income budgeting and saving and understanding the implications of debt and avoiding the pitfalls of unscrupulous lenders and other scams will help students gain a solid financial footing. High Water Women joined forces with financial industry legend Muriel Siebert in 2009 to launch the Muriel Siebert High Water Women Campaign for Financial Literacy. Since 2009, more than 9000 low income New Yorkers and 400 volunteers have participated in the program. Annual Backpack Drive HWW’s annual Backpack Drive directly benefits low-income elementary and high school students living in New York City and the tri-state area by providing a fully-supplied backpack to start the school year. HWW provided 6.900 backpacks in 2019 and since its inception in 2005, HWW has provided backpacks to more than 144,270 children in need. Through our Secret Santa gift program, HWW also fulfills the holiday wishes for thousands of children in need in the NY area. Volunteerism HWW provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities to engage business professionals in HWW programs and the work of our partner organizations. HWW offers more than 500 unique volunteer opportunities and engages volunteers who perform more than 4000 hours of volunteer service each year. The HWW Young Women’s Council supports HWW programs and develops volunteerism among young professionals. HWW Events Since its founding, HWW has provided a platform for thought leadership events to explore issues in financial literacy, microfinance and other topics of interest to our constituents. In 2013, HWW established our credentials as a thought leader and convener in the emerging field of impact investing with a one day symposium in New York for more than 300 investment professionals, including family offices, wealth advisers, impact companies and foundations. With valuable feedback from this constituency, we recognized the value in convening an ongoing discussion on the challenges and opportunities in this emerging field here in NYC. The has now become an annual event.
