Mission Statement
The Initiative for Diversity, a coalition organization, was established to advance diversity and inclusion in the legal profession with respect to hiring, retention, promotion, and elevation into leadership positions, and resulting in significant and measurable progress.
About This Cause
The Initiative for Diversity was established in 2004 to advance diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. In early 2000, there were several report that confirmed what many in the legal profession believed—that barriers still exists and were preventing certain members in the legal profession from reaching their highest levels of status and compensation. As a result, many minority bar associations, the Glass Ceiling Task Force, the King County Bar Association, and other groups, who were working independently to improve diversity in the legal profession, came together to collaborate on the Initiative for Diversity, appreciating the strength in unity and benefits in sharing of resources.
