Mission Statement
Reclaim Childhood is a 501(c)(3) creating save and inclusive spaces for refugee and local girls in Jordan to thrive by playing sports, working with coaches, and building community.
About This Cause
RC operates after school sports practice, teen leadership, and summer camp programming for girls ages 6–18 across East Amman, Mafraq, and Zarqa. It also reaches girls throughout the country through outreach programming and trains local women in sport coaching and youth development. RC has three main goals: First, to provide a safe space where participants can “Reclaim Childhood” and just be kids. Second, to connect communities that otherwise may not interact – refugees and host community Jordanians alike. Third, to empower and inspire young women, by employing the positive impact of sport and play to teach the life lessons uniquely learned through athletics and by providing strong female role models as coaches. Reclaim Childhood focuses on serving participants in a safe and sustainable way by training refugee and local women from within the communities. We believe sport has the power to inspire confidence, hope and ambition in athletes. Team oriented games at all levels provide the psychosocial support necessary to improve self-esteem, strengthen peer relationships and foster leadership. Today, girls living in the Middle East have few opportunities to play sports. RC targets girls living in the most underserved communities in Jordan, including refugees from Syria, Iraq and Palestine.
