Mission Statement

Chicago HOPES for Kids provides educational support for children living in homeless shelters. It is our mission to provide our students with the resources and encouragement needed to succeed academically, despite the challenges of homelessness.

About This Cause

Chicago HOPES for Kids offers four programs to children and families experiencing homelessness: HOPES After School This program meets 4 days a week for 2 hours. It has three main components: homework help, literacy support, and enrichment. Students are partnered with volunteers to ensure they are academically staying on track, receiving support, and making progress with literacy skills, while having fun! Literacy Mentors Our literacy mentor program is an opportunity for specially trained mentors to work oneonone with middle school students to improve literacy skills and academic confidence, grow social/emotional skills, and develop a love for reading. HOPES Summer Enrichment Our Summer program provides literacy support and enrichment for children at the shelters to prevent academic regression. Program meets 4 days a week for 2 hrs and includes: Nutrition, Art, Around the World, and STEM curriculum. HOPES Parent Program We offer monthly parent sessions focusing on on the needs and interests of the parents.
