Mission Statement
In our tethered life to our ever increasing disembodied technological world there is an urgent need for dance to thrive and reach as many as possible. In the brilliant and beautiful city of Seattle, Karin Stevens Dance exists to create more space for this movement in our time, building a connection to our self and a connectedness toward others. KSD believes that dance is a radical and vital art key to our future in this 21st century. We commune, collaborate and converse through dance to remind us that to be fully human we must move and create from this movement. Capturing the breadth of the moving human experience, the dance creations embody the complex layers of our cultural spaces, time and relationship to nature.
About This Cause
The Seattle-based Karin Stevens Dance collaborates with music, visual and theater artists to create new contemporary works. Extending the tradition of modern dance, KSD works merge both the imaginative visions of the choreographer and the collaborators in movement, sound, concept, and design. Since 2009 we have existed to be a reminder that movement connects us to our self, to others and that dance is a radical and vital art key to our future in this 21st century. Capturing the breadth of the moving human experience, the works strive for beauty, sometimes humorous or turbulent, with richly textured patterns that embody the complex layers of our cultural spaces, time and relationship to nature. We commune, collaborate and converse through the dance to remind us that to be fully human we must move and create from this movement. KSD presents and tours multiple original concerts often with commissioned new live and local music. KSD has worked with the Kalispel, MT based Glacier Symphony and Chorale, the Missoula, MT based String Orchestra of the Rockies, and Seattle’s Northwest Symphony Orchestra, Simple Measures, Seattle Jazz Composers Ensemble, Taproot Theater, and Book-It Theater to name a few… ksd has received support from Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, 4-Culture and the Glenn H. Kawasaki Foundation.
