Mission Statement
Care for Children is a global children's charity that believes all children have the right to grow up in a family environment where they will be nurtured to reach their potential. Our vision and mission is to see children across the world moved out of orphanages and into local families in local communities.
About This Cause
Decades of research shows that orphanages cannot provide the one-to-one care, love and attention a child needs to develop and thrive. Children living in orphanages tend to have low academic achievement and, on leaving the care system, many fall victim to trafficking, sexual exploitation, unemployment, mental health problems and homelessness. Care for Children currently works in four countries across Asia, ensuring some of the most vulnerable children - who are growing up in orphanages - have the opportunity to grow up in a family. We partner with governments that want to develop foster care as a positive and sustainable alternative to orphanages, but lack the knowledge and skills needed to see it through effectively. Drawing on over 25 years of international expertise and experience, we provide specialised training and support to government orphanages, enabling them to set-up and run their own foster care programmes. This means that they can start moving children out of orphanages and into local, loving families. Since 1998, we have trained over 7,000 people from over 600 orphanages, resulting in more than a million children being placed into families.
