Mission Statement
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
About This Cause
Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating sub-standard housing. Since 1987, we have served over 500 families with housing solutions programs and built over 220 affordable, quality- built homes for families in our community. People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Homeownership Program: We have pre-set designs and build locations where qualified families invest time and Sweat Equity (250 hours) by taking homeownership classes, working on build sites, and building their own home. Homeownership builds strength, stability, and self-reliance. An applicant must meet all criteria listed below to be considered for the Homeownership program. Aging in Place Program: The goal of Habitat for Humanity’s Aging in Place program is to help seniors over the age of 60 in St. Joseph County continue to live in their own homes and community safely, independently and comfortably. The Aging in Place program works in collaboration with several other community programs that focus on serving adults over the age of 60. The Aging in Place program focuses on projects that are outside the scope and/or budget for many of our partnerships that will help these seniors remain in their homes longer. Veterans assistance Program: Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County is enacting our Veteran’s Initiative, where we help place Military Veterans into affordable housing.
