Mission Statement
At the Trinity United Church of Christ Child Care Centers, Incorporated (TUCC), our mission is to provide children and families in Chicago with a transformative and enriching early childhood education experience rooted in Christian values and African principles. We are committed to offering high-quality, holistic care that nurtures the whole child—physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. By embracing an African-centered approach, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage and diversity within our community while fostering a strong sense of identity and pride. Our dedicated team of educators and caregivers create a warm and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, loved, and supported. Through engaging curriculum, meaningful play, and purposeful interactions, we empower children to develop their full potential and become lifelong learners. We understand that education is a collaborative effort, and we actively engage families in their child's learning journey. We strive to build stronger familial and communal relationships, recognizing that a strong support system is vital for a child's overall development. Together, we foster a sense of belonging and create a supportive community that uplifts and empowers each family. Our ultimate goal is to equip children with the tools they need to not only survive but thrive in the future. Grounded in Christian principles, we instill values of compassion, respect, and integrity, fostering a deep sense of purpose and responsibility towards others. As children grow within our care, we aim to nurture their spiritual development, helping them build a strong foundation for a life rooted in faith and love. At TUCC Child Care Centers, we are committed to excellence, inclusivity, and the holistic well-being of every child and family we serve. Together, we strive to create a brighter future where each child can embrace their unique gifts and make a positive impact in our world.
About This Cause
In 1977, TUCC opened its doors to the state-subsidized Title XX day care at 532 W. 95th Street to meet the needs of the community’s low income families. TUCC has achieved consistent growth and currently provides high-quality early childhood education programs through Early Head Start (6 weeks to 3 years); Head Start; Preschool for All (3 to 5 years); and child care (6 to 12 years), operating 6 am – 6 pm, 250 days per year. TUCC is an essential community resource, offering developmentally and culturally appropriate early childhood education to meet families’ needs at three locations: • The Rev. Jeremiah Wright Early Care and Learning Center (532 W. 95th Street) - Serving approximately 140 children annually ages 6 weeks to 12 years, primarily from the Auburn Gresham, Washington Heights and Roseland neighborhoods. • Dr. Deton Brooks Child Care Center (6921 S. Stony Island) – Serving approximately 70 children ages 2-5 primarily from Greater Grand Crossing, South Shore and Woodlawn neighborhoods. • TUCC Imani Village (901 E. 95th Street, Door B) – This is a new school site opening September 2024, with a classroom(s) and new playlot; to start with 17 children. TUCC’s research-based, early childhood Creative Curriculum, focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM), addresses social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. TUCC aims to ensure all children are ready for school and are educated on foundational history rooted in the African diaspora and perspective. This focus builds pride, promotes an understanding of history, builds community, and instills self-worth and confidence.
