Mission Statement
The Metropolitan Music Community (MMC) provides adult instrumentalists the opportunity to make music in a friendly setting and share it with the public. We strive to give everyone a place to play at their level of experience. We foster awareness of instrumental music and promote the art of symphonic wind ensembles in particular.
About This Cause
The Metropolitan Music Community (MMC), founded in 2008, organizes three adult community wind ensembles and one jazz band to support wind and percussion musicianship at every level, and provides accessible performances in a community historically underserved by classical music. Our ensembles Brooklyn Wind Symphony, Grand Street Community Band, Kings County Concert Band, and Bushwick Big Band provide accessible, high caliber, concerts for all, and support lifelong participation in music for all. We regularly commission new works from composers underrepresented in the canon.
