Mission Statement

The Mission of the Shoreline Historical Museum is to serve the public by preserving, recording, and interpreting the heritage of the historic Shoreline area and its relationship to the surrounding region. The Museum’s service area includes the cities of Lake Forest Park and Shoreline, and the neighborhoods of North Seattle, such as Sand Point, Wedgwood, Lake City, Licton Springs, Northgate, Broadview and Haller Lake. The Museum, through its activities, provides cultural, historical and educational benefits for all, and opportunities to gather as a community.

About This Cause

The Shoreline Historical Museum (SHM) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that has been in existence since 1975, and was founded as a Bicentennial Project by the community. SHM is operated by a board of trustees and an executive director, and over 50 volunteers work in all aspects of the Museum. Having just completed a new $2 million Heritage Center Collections and Research Facility in 2020, SHM has expanded its capacity and expects to provide even better services to the public. The museum has approximately 10,000 photographs and 6,000 community artifacts. SHM teaches the history of the community through exhibits, lectures, hands-on programs, walking tours, publications and its research archives. The Museum receives support from members, donors, the city of Shoreline, 4Culture and the Washington State Heritage Capital program and a number of foundations.
