Mission Statement
World Connect invests in grassroots designed and led development solutions, particularly those impacting women and girls, in marginalized and vulnerable communities worldwide. The expertise and sustained commitment to solving development challenges must be led by local communities to be sustainable, and World Connect achieves this cost-effectively and at scale.
About This Cause
Since 2012, World Connect has launched 1,025 locally-led projects in 42 countries with $5 million dollars, impacting the lives of more than 1 million people. We know from experience that local communities, even the most marginalized and disconnected, are best qualified to lead their own development. Local leadership in development leads to more contextually-relevant, locally-owned, and sustainable progress. Industry research validates that local ownership translates into sustained impact. The challenge for the industry is how to take a committed, local approach to grassroots development to scale. To do this, World Connect centers local leadership in advancing locally-led development, which ensures inclusive engagement of communities in designing their own development efforts, tactically positions women, marginalized groups, non-elite and non-formal actors in positions of leadership, increases the financial and human capital investment of local communities, and leads to successful development outcomes in health, education, and economic opportunity.
