Mission Statement

The Jazz Bridge Project is a 501C3 nonprofit organization that was established in 2004 by a group of caring jazz musicians and fans dedicated to assisting professional Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis by providing confidential and caring support in keeping with their personal dignity. Through donations, grants, our neighborhood concerts and special projects, Jazz Bridge assists those coping with emergencies involving health, legal, financial, personal and professional needs, while building an awareness of the local jazz sound.

About This Cause

Jazz Bridge is an arts services organization that was unofficially founded in 2004 by jazz singers Suzanne Cloud and Wendy Simon to address the lack of support for professional jazz and blues musicians in crisis living and working in the Greater Philadelphia Metro area. Over the years, these women had witnessed the struggles of their fellow musicians and the desperation felt by some in the music community when the only available remedy for an individual dealing with hardship in times of trouble was the traditional jam session to raise money. Seeking a more permanent and secure support system, Simon and Cloud assembled like-minded musicians and fans to form The Jazz Bridge Project, the organization’s official name. The founding board of Jazz Bridge saw a special opportunity to develop a unique, regional model that could not only provide individual help during hard times, but could also further public awareness of the tradition, history, and current state of original music in the Philly area by presenting neighborhood concert series hosted and curated by notable musicians throughout the region. Jazz Bridge was awarded tax exempt status by the IRS in 2007 and the founding board of directors were: singers Suzanne Cloud and Wendy Simon; jazz promoter and producer Sue Ford; jazz radio host and historian Bob Perkins; jazz clubowner Pete Souders; bassist Mike Boone and guitarist Kevin Eubanks. Since our beginnings Jazz Bridge has grown with the help of loyal donors, volunteers, granting-making organizations and fans to help more and more musicians over the years and to present and archive over 48 concerts each year. Everyone at Jazz Bridge hopes you will become a regular visitor to our web site, our concerts, and our You Tube page.
