Mission Statement
Our goal is to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. Effective voting allows a community to determine its own destiny. We agree with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” Towards this end, we help to expand the capacity of community-based organizations that serve our community and mobilize voters.
About This Cause
We seek to achieve our goals with the following 5 core beliefs in mind: 1. The key to effective civic engagement and community power is understanding, respecting and supporting local infrastructure. 2. Black voters matter not only on election day, but on the 364 days between election days as well. This means we must support individuals and organizations that are striving to obtain social justice throughout the year. 3. Black voters matter *everywhere*, including rural counties and smaller cities/towns that are often ignored by candidates, elected officials, political parties and the media. 4. In order for Black voters to matter, we must utilize authentic messaging which speaks to our issues, connects with our hopes and affirms our humanity. 5. The leadership, talent and commitment demonstrated by Black women in particular must receive recognition and, more importantly, *investment* in order to flourish and multiply. Non-Partisan Voter Registration Engagement Voting is a fundamental right, regardless of party affiliation. We’re dedicated to non-partisan voter registration and turnout efforts. Our goal is to ensure every voice can be heard. But our work goes beyond just one day at the polls – we’re building power for the long haul, through ongoing education and community engagement. Capacity Building of Grassroots Organizations In areas where resources are scarce, we help build the infrastructure that marginalized/Black-led grassroots organizations need to thrive. From communications and organizing training to fundraising and candidate development, we’re investing in the strength of our community. Grants We provide funding to over 500 partners in more than 20 states, empowering local organizations to do the vital work of mobilizing voters and organizing for change.
