Mission Statement

To seek permanent, responsible homes for abandoned cats and dogs while caring for them in a no-kill environment, and to promote humane principles and behavior.

About This Cause

Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary (SHAS) is a no-kill, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1996, and is the largest and longest-running no-kill facility in the Las Cruces, NM area. SHAS provides medical care, food, shelter and comfort to nearly 90 homeless cats and dogs from our community, while seeking caring homes for them. As a private organization, we do not receive any local, state or federal funding. SHAS relies on the generosity of our community donors, as well as proceeds from fundraising events, bequests and grants. All cats and dogs arriving at the sanctuary receive proper medical care, are spayed/neutered, tested for disease, receive required vaccinations and are microchipped. SHAS operates a sanctuary and a thrift store utilizing a total of 5 full-time employees, 5 part-time employees and approximately 25 volunteers. At Safe Haven, we believe that all animals deserve to live life with love, care and respect. The best way to achieve that end is through easily attainable and affordable spay/neuter programs in conjunction with educational services.
