About This Cause
Keep.id is an online identification platform that assists clients experiencing homelessness in obtaining, securely storing, and utilizing government-issued ID to apply for aid services and employment. “It was pretty hard. You can’t go to the doctor. I couldn’t cash any checks. I couldn’t apply for food stamps,” shared an individual who became homeless after his landlord evicted him and discarded his ID. According to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty in 2018, 51% of homeless adults without identification were denied Supplemental Security Income, 53% denied food stamps, and 45% denied medical care. Lack of identification forces individuals to find alternative, informal assistance that is neither adequate nor consistent. For people experiencing homelessness without secure ID, Keep.id provides a simplified and guided tool to apply, obtain, and safely store important documents. For case managers at nonprofits, Keep.id is an administrative resource to manage every step of a client’s journey, including organizing the logistics and data involved with this process. Keep.id partners with local nonprofits such as shelters and soup kitchens in the Philadelphia community to help navigate underserved individuals through the complicated application process with our one click apply solution. Once individuals receive their identification at the partner nonprofit, they store an online copy in our secure cloud storage solution which facilitates access to housing, jobs, and eligible aid programs. We also operate a weekly in-person computer lab at a shelter to help people experiencing homelessness (PEH) apply specifically for birth certificates and driver's licenses applications. Our nonprofit partners have further validated these core competencies, indicating that our tools greatly reduce the number of steps to manage ID & complete applications.
