Mission Statement

The Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington advocates for the health and care of children and adults affected by the challenges of hemophilia and von Willebrand Disease. Our mission is to embrace a holistic approach to educating our supporters and empowering those within our community to bring a voice to our cause. Together we will find a cure.

About This Cause

Our vision is to create a movement. A body of people that will give a voice to our message….to trigger an awareness and influence those that can to support our cause. By doing so we will advance our ability to help bring an end to all bleeding disorders and associated pain and suffering. The Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington began in the 1970′s when parents gathered together at Camp I-Vy for their children. Over the years the Foundation changed its name and took on unimaginable challenges, resulting from tainted blood products in the 1980′s. The result was tremendous devastation for the bleeding disorder community. Almost 70% of the community contracted HIV and, sadly, over half of them passed away. In 1999, the name Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington was established. For over 15 years, the BDFW has been the leading advocacy and support organization for those living with bleeding disorders in Washington State. Today, the BDFW is launching a national research fund, provides over 28 educational programs a year throughout the state and fighting for access to medical care for all bleeding disorder patients.
