Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood provides a powerful immersive learning experience for participants to experience the journey of a refugee, led by guides with ‘lived experience’ from a range of refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds. The project also provides training and employment opportunities, building confidence and providing pathways for longer term employment for people from refugee backgrounds. The tours are confronting, powerful and life-changing - watch this video to find out more.
Our current website (www.refugeecampauburn.com.au), however, doesn't have the same impact as our tours and needs an urgent refresh/revamp (just take a look)!
Do you have ideas to improve the site? It could be as simple as a new WordPress template that we can manage ourselves … it just needs to look better!
Other improvements could include incorporating our online EOI process for schools or managing bookings for tours and booking confirmation information etc, but these are longer terms goals. For now we need an urgent and quick refresh (our promo has already started!).
The kind person will be very competent at designing a web page. They will be able to be creative in the design probably using a simple CMS such as wordpress or something easy for us to use when making changes in the future.
If you have ideas and skills in this area, we would love to discuss further.

You are capable of great things. You are loved. You have a team of supporters thinking of you and cheering you on everyday. We believe in you.

Did you know that about yourself? When was the last time someone spoke encouragement to you?

Once a month, our team dedicates 30 minutes of our day to share encouragement with people who may not hear encouraging words often through our Kindness Collaborative Initiative. We use technology from our partner, City of Samaritans (www.samaritan.city/equip), to discover the story and goals of individuals experiencing extreme poverty or homelessness. We then send messages of encouragement to folks through the Samaritan app, and can even give a financial gift to help a person meet an immediate need.

So how can you get involved? Join the Kindness Collaborative Initiative! Then invite family members and friends, or even colleagues at work, to join you once a month in performing an act of kindness for an unhoused neighbor. The Samaritan app is a great starting point, but feel free to be creative! We like to take 10 minutes afterwards to share how the experience went.

Whatever you choose to do, shoot us a note at samaritancapitalfdn@gmail.com to let us know you're in. We'll follow up with you each month to hear how things are going.

"Sometimes just knowing that a random human being cares helps me to remember that I am not my situation. My situation is temporary." -Katherine

"Thank you for all of your generosity and kind words. I'm floored and overwhelmed by the kindness." -Ginger

"To know that there are strangers that are proud of me and want to support and encourage me is so motivating!" -Laura

We would welcome new trustees to revitalise and carry our charity forward to champion and provide for people of all ages with severe mobility difficulties.

This would entail a committment to meeting with other trustees (either online or in person) at least 3 times per year, to direct policy and strategy. WE are mainly a fundraising organisation, so experience and enthusiasm in charity fundraising would be a great asset.
