All aspects of running a softball league with 354 participants require volunteers. Everyone, even the members of the board of directors, is a volunteer. Volunteers coach the teams, maintain the fields, work on fund raisers, and provide administrative assistance. Without those volunteers, we would not be able to continue to offer the largest Dixie Softball franchise in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Summer Learning Enrichment Institute:

Operating Dates: May 28 – July 2 Hours: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Our program is dedicated to serving and uplifting K-5 through 8th grade students from the Pearl, Rankin County, and Metro Jackson school districts. We focus on students identified by their schools as reading below grade level, those who have failed, or are one or more grades behind.

We prioritize students facing significant challenges, including those living below the poverty line, residing in public or government housing, growing up in single-parent households, or belonging to historically underserved minority groups, such as African-American and Hispanic/Latino American communities, with special attention to male students.

Our aim is clear: to empower deserving students across the Greater Jackson Metro area by equipping them with the critical skill of reading comprehension while fostering positive character and conduct development. These foundational elements are essential for unlocking their full life-skill potential and building a pathway to lasting success.

By fostering better-educated, well-equipped, and highly skilled students, we are building a brighter future—better families, stronger schools, more capable workers and workplaces, and a new generation of effective public servants. Together, we are shaping a better, more culturally progressive Mississippi and a stronger United States.

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission. Their commitment and hard work inspire us every day. Let's continue to make a positive impact together! We are flexible on commitment but encourage once a week to build relationships with the patrons. Filling in on holiday breaks and when our placement students are off is also needed. Schedule is posted the week before and volunteers can claim shifts that work for their schedule.

Our values:
People First | Accessible & Low Barrier | Caring & Responsive | Safe & Trusted | Equitable & Respectful

9:15-1:15 or 12pm-4pm Monday-Friday:
-Coat Check: Assist patrons with our coat check procedures. Patrons put items in a sealed container during their visit and sometimes need to be gently reminded about our rules. One coat check volunteer takes down the patrons information while two other coat-check volunteers place the bins in a secure location and then wipe the bins out after use.
-Washroom Volunteers: Sign the patrons in and out of our washrooms, use a sanitizing wipe on high-touch surfaces like door knobs and taps after each use (not a detailed clean).

9:15-1:15PM Monday-Friday (no afternoon shift):
-Food and Clothing Bank: Organize and fulfill pantry orders for our patrons
-Food Service Volunteers: hand out pre-plated lunch, serve coffee, water and juice

Monday-Saturday 8am-Noon:
-Kitchen Volunteers: Cook, chop, plate lunch, and tidy the kitchen

As Needed:
-Pick Ups and Drops Offs: Occasionally, we need volunteers to pick up items, or drop them off around Oshawa and the surrounding area, such as bags of out-going or incoming donations

Looking for a place to serve your community in 2025? You’re in luck - ArtWorks for Milwaukee is currently seeking volunteers who can make a long term commitment to working on some special data collection projects. Volunteers can work on their own schedule, but should occasionally be available for meetings.

About the organization

ArtWorks for Milwaukee’s mission is preparing youth for tomorrow by providing transferable career skills through art internships today. Founded in 2001, ArtWorks has helped more than 1,500 Milwaukee-area teens develop skills such as communication, public speaking, and problem solving, through working on arts projects that benefit the community. These are the skills that employers value but say workforce participants are lacking. We seek to change the narrative by developing homegrown talent.

Our work is informed and infused with these core values:
Do Not Underestimate Youth: We believe in working holistically and respecting the gifts that youth bring. We do not see young people as deficient, but rather as equipped to prepare for the challenge of joining the workforce.
Everyone is Capable: We believe that self-determination is a key element to life satisfaction, and that anyone in any line of work can and should make a positive contribution to their community.
Elevating Youth Voice: We believe that the development of young people’s confidence is a worthwhile endeavor, because all other talent development flows from that.
Art is Essential: We believe everyone is creative, and capable of creating art, and that art is not only a vehicle for social change but a remedy for the human condition.

ArtWorks interns represent many schools, zip codes, and walks of life. We deliberately recruit from all over the Milwaukee area, and we do not require teens to have prior arts experience.

Special Project Needs

ArtWorks is looking for volunteers who have experience with data collection and/or research to help with two major projects:
Creating a comprehensive database of past ArtWorks projects, complete with information about the artists involved, locations, partners, and funders. This information will be used internally and may be published externally.
Creating a comprehensive database of ArtWorks alumni and maintaining the confidentiality of data collected. The goal is to allow ArtWorks staff and board to reach out to alumni to see where they are now, and whether and how they want to reconnect.

These projects can be as simple as a Google sheet - the important thing is to have as much information as possible, so we can take full stock of our work, measure our effectiveness over time, and create a robust alumni network.

All ArtWorks volunteers must be able to pass a background check and sign a photo and video release allowing the organization to use your image.

Alberta casino events provide a unique and impactful opportunity for charities to raise essential funds while engaging with their community. These events are hosted at licensed casinos across the province, where registered charities like Heart & Stroke participate in the operation of casino table games over a two-day period. In return, participating organizations receive a portion of the casino's revenue, allocated through the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) charitable gaming model.

Heart & Stroke uses funds raised through these casino events to support life-saving research, education, and health promotion programs, helping to create healthier lives free of heart disease and stroke for all Canadians.

Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of these events. As a Heart & Stroke casino volunteer, you’ll join a small, friendly team to fill important roles such as cashier, chip runner, or count room staff. No previous experience is necessary—training is provided on-site. Shifts are scheduled in advance and typically last 4-6 hours. These events are a fun and rewarding way to contribute to your community and directly support Heart & Stroke’s mission. Participants need to be 18+.

By donating your time, you’ll help raise vital funds to save lives and support families impacted by heart disease and stroke. Join us and make a difference!
