Community Roots Housing (CRH) operates a portfolio of 1,986 affordable homes across 46 new and historic apartment buildings for 2,176 low-income residents and families in the Seattle area. Together with residents and partners, we confront inequity to create inclusive housing and foster thriving, just communities.

Our newest affordable housing development, Africatown Plaza, built in partnership with Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT), is celebrating its grand opening on October 5, 2024. The development will provide 126 studio, 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments for residents in Seattle’s Central District, as well as ground level commercial space for the nonprofit headquarters of ACLT whose mission is to empower the pan-African diaspora to thrive culturally and economically.

To help our residents settle into their new homes, we are creating resident welcome kits. This volunteer opportunity will support CRH and ACLT by assembling 126 resident welcome kits for each household in the building to receive upon move in. We will need a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 40 volunteers to assemble the kits. Each kit will include housewarming items such as cleaning products, kitchen and bathroom supplies, snacks, puzzles/games, clothing items, and more. This event will take place in person and Amy Forsaith, Senior Manager of Philanthropy at CRH, will facilitate the volunteer opportunity. The event will take 30 minutes to complete and is not repeatable. We are requesting $1,500 to help fund the costs for the items in the welcome kits. This funding will go towards purchasing toiletries, household supplies, and other necessities that will help Africatown Plaza residents feel at home as they move into their new apartments. Your support will directly contribute to creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for low-income members of our community. #Give2024
