About This Cause
Lou’s Place is a women’s daytime community drop-in and crisis service located in Redfern. Our service assists women experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness, domestic and family violence, child protection issues, complex trauma, substance use issues, disability, and mental health conditions. Lou’s Place is a safe place for women and offers a range of free supports, services, and group activities, as well as drop-in and referral assistance where no appointment is necessary. Lou’s Place provides a supportive context for women to tackle life’s challenges by offering services that help them rebuild self – respect, stability, and security in their lives. Services at Lou’s Place At Lou’s Place we believe that women in need benefit most from a welcoming environment that feels like a good home and, above all, offers safety. Creating a safe place is fundamental to establishing trust, and trust is essential to rebuilding lives. We believe in meeting our clients at their point of need. Since each woman finds herself in a different place and proceeds at a different rate, we do not offer a single service for everyone. Lou’s Place not only offers a place to rest, eat, shower, wash clothes and enjoy company. We also provide crisis intervention, referrals, and access to legal advice or other professional services. We also offer a number of activities that support women to connect with others and build new skills, activities at Lou's Place include art, sewing, jewellery making to name a few. How Does Lou’s Place Help? Lou’s Place restores trust, security and self-respect. By re-establishing trust as the foundation of healthy relationships, including those with our staff, volunteers, fellow clients, friends and family, we help women counteract social isolation. We provide a supportive context for women to tackle life challenges by offering services that help them rebuild self-respect, stability and security in their lives. Our safe environment allows women the opportunity to consider their options, imagine a different life and take steps to build it. What is The Marmalade Foundation? The Marmalade Foundation formed in 1999 began with a group of four women who wanted to give back to the community; to focus their efforts on women who needed help and support. Now the group has grown to over 20. The Marmalade Foundation work tirelessly to raise funds to support the ongoing operation of Lou's Place. Not only do Marmalade members donate funds, they contribute their time, passion, networks and expertise to directly impact on policy, strategy, operations and systems. Why The Marmalade Foundation? Because life is bitter sweet. It also has resonance with home and nurturing - central values to foundation members.
