SchoolAid Trust - helping young people change their world

Mission Statement

At SchoolAid, we’re passionate about the power of young minds and how our capacity to practice generosity of spirit isn’t limited by our years. So, believing that kids are capable of making a difference, we provided a platform for them to do exactly that. KidsGive is Australia’s first crowd funding platform for kids, enabling them to practice values of kindness and giving through helping others. The reason KidsGive exists however, despite giving these kids the platform to do endless amounts of good, is for them to feel good, about who they are, the power they have to make a difference, and the hope and resilience they gain from seeing the world through a different lens and perspective through their giving.

About This Cause

The inspiration and operations behind SchoolAid, a national social enterprise network empowering young people to change their world through "giving". SchoolAid’s purpose since its inception in 1999 has been to promote a world where Australian children live the values of care and compassion and so develop a lifelong sense of moral and social responsibility. So it follows that you will find here a raft of campaigns created by little givers, and also SchoolAid campaigns that tap our community to activate their compassion in the face of disasters and crises impacting children and their education. SchoolAid enables and empowers young people to make a tangible difference to the lives of others – through commitment and action. By participating in our programs, young learn a sense of personal and social responsibility about the needs of others, and how the power of their actions can truly make a difference. Founded on two pillars, In-reach and Out-reach, SchoolAid has always placed equal importance to the benefits young people gain from giving and being of service to others (In-reach), as it has on delivering funds to support children in crisis and need (Out-reach). In a world where individualism, consumerism, media and mental health issues can have a negative impact on the hearts and minds of our children, the act of giving and being of service can and does counteract the negativity that leaves so many young people anxious, depressed or even suicidal. So it makes sense SchoolAid would back the first crowdfunding platform to encourage more young people to give, ignite their compassion and give it a vehicle by which to turn that compassion into action. Since SchoolAid was founded in 1999, over $4.8 million has been raised by school students across Australia, in over 5,000 schools, and distributed to child-focused programs from bushfires in Victoria, tsunami disaster in Banda Aceh, to relief post floods in Queensland. SchoolAid arms school teachers and parents with a full suite of learning and activity resources to readily engage students in active philanthropy, whilst reinforcing the values-learning benefits associated with their students’ fundraising activities. "I congratulate school children involved in SchoolAid across Australia for the support and care they have shown their peers. Schools are such an important part of the fabric of our community and the welfare of our children." ~ Julia Gillard, Former Prime Minister of Australia, Chair Global Partnership on Education
