Mission Statement
Where wombats dominate and humans accommodate! A self funded sanctuary, Gundaroo NSW where no wombat in need is turned away. Through our passion we hope to encourage long term preservation of the species for future generations, along with educating people about the incredible world of wombats and WHY they deserve to be helped.
About This Cause
OUR AIM To be the best wombat sanctuary in Australia, driven and taught by the best teachers, wombats. To continue our high rate of success with releasing wombats (WITH THE NECESSARY SKILLS) back to the bush at Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary. Driving a passion in people for wombats which will ultimately lead to education, community involvement and the preservation of the species long term. We are a self funded wombat sanctuary in NSW Australia. We specialise in rehabilitating injured, orphaned and pet wombats. We raise orphaned wombats and teach them the necessary skills so that they can be released back into the Australian bush, where they belong. The sanctuary was started initially to deal with injured wombats but over the years the amount of orphans or 'pet' wombats we are handed has increased substantially. Pet wombats in particular take a lot of time and dedication to reverse the damage done by humans but every wombat deserves the chance to live where it belongs. If we can undo the damage, we most certainly do and ensure they have the correct skills in the end to survive and thrive. Our work includes relocating wombats, assisting councils and farmers, educating children and people in general about wombats. Encouraging co-existence in our ever changing world which is dominating their habitat in a very serious way. We have seen big changes over the years in terms of wombat location, injuries, stress on populations and so much more. Education is the key as is smart rehabilitation for the successful release of these animals back into the bush where they will in fact survive with the necessary skills.
