About This Cause
The Stronger Smarter Institute provides benevolent relief to, and addresses and alleviates the disadvantages faced by, Indigenous Australian children, thereby enabling them to become better educated and have better employment and other opportunities, to enjoy improved health, well-being and life expectancy, and incidentally to develop a positive sense of Indigenous identity. Achieving this object involves exploring deeply entrenched and complex social and cultural contexts and issues. Various government programs have had limited success in pursuing purposes similar to the Objects, in remote and rural communities, regional centres and major cities. Our approach leads to improvements in teacher/student relationships in all the relevant schools throughout Australia, including in remote and other rural (and in many cases small) communities, regional centres and major cities. To reach as many Indigenous children as reasonably possible we work in partnership, collaboration or co-operation with schools and teachers in schools. Activities may include, in particular, reaching Indigenous Children by working in partnership with (or through) principals and teachers in relevant schools to build high expectations for classroom attendance and other behaviours and also for teacher/student relationships, to: improve school attendance, retention and completion rates; student motivation, engagement and commitment; reading and literacy; knowledge and appreciation of their own culture and their sense of their Indigenous identity, self-image, self-confidence, self-esteem and hopefulness; academic results, practical skills, other learning outcomes; employability, community engagement, self-sufficiency and overall well-being. We develop and deliver quality leadership programs to relevant school staff, to enhance the teaching of, and learning outcomes for Indigenous students in relevant schools. Staff and community leaders help sustain the constant pursuit of the Objects by working in partnership with governments, universities, other Not-for-Profit entities and corporate partners in a common pursuit of the Objects. We also actively contribute to the growing body of research relating to the pursuit of our Objects.
