Mission Statement

At Wayside Chapel, our mission is to create a community with no ‘us and them’. For over 60 years, we’ve walked alongside people experiencing homelessness, social isolation, mental health challenges and substance use, offering care without judgement and community without conditions. From our centres in Kings Cross and Bondi Beach, we provide essential services—meals, showers, clothing, health care and support—as well as programs that empower people to heal, grow and reconnect. Our Pathways Program, Women’s Service, Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Op Shops and community programs in art, music, gardening, meditation and recovery all work together to foster dignity, purpose and belonging. At Wayside, we believe everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued. We meet people where they are, walk beside them, and celebrate progress in all its forms.

About This Cause

Our Vision: Love over hate. Our Mission: Creating community with no 'us and them'. At Wayside Chapel, we believe everyone deserves to be met without judgement and welcomed with open arms—no matter their story. For over 60 years, we’ve provided care, connection and practical support to people facing homelessness, social isolation, mental health issues and substance use. From our community hubs in Kings Cross and Bondi Beach, we offer more than a meal or a shower—we offer a sense of belonging. In the past year alone, over 80,000 instances of support were provided to people seeking help, connection or simply a place to rest and be seen. Our wraparound programs are designed to meet people where they’re at and walk alongside them as they stabilise, heal and grow. This includes: Community Services Centres that provide access to food, showers, clean clothes, medical and mental health care, and personalised support. The Pathways Program, which helps people build confidence, structure and new skills as they take steps toward employment, education or a more stable life. The Women’s Space, a trauma-informed, women-only space that supports women experiencing domestic and family violence, homelessness or crisis. Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Programs, run by and for First Nations people, creating culturally safe spaces for healing, connection and community leadership. Wayside Op Shops, which offer low-cost clothing and essentials, provide training and employment pathways, and help fund our services through social enterprise. Community Programs like art, music, gardening, recovery workshops and meditation. These programs create opportunities for people to rebuild confidence, find joy, and connect with others in meaningful ways. At Wayside, we don’t see ‘clients’ or ‘cases’. We see people—each with a story, strengths, and the potential to thrive. Our care is grounded in respect, authenticity and human connection. We exist thanks to a community of generous people who believe in our mission. Volunteers, donors and workplace supporters keep our doors open every day and ensure that no one is left behind. When you support Wayside, you’re not just offering a meal or a service—you’re helping someone feel safe, valued and part of a community. Join us in creating a society where everyone belongs.
