Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Drop in Care Space is to improve the wellbeing of LGBTIQA+, neurodivergent and disabled adults as well as adults who live with a mental health condition. The organisation provides an affirming and inclusive community space that encourages a sense of belonging, self determination and autonomy through access to resources, skill-building and connection with community. This in turn helps to mitigate the isolation and distress that our community members experience as a result of the stigma and discrimination associated with their intersecting identities and experiences of being marginalised.
About This Cause
The Drop in Care Space is a 100% volunteer operated and lived experience led, community centre. We are open Wednesday through to Sunday, providing a schedule of regular activities and offering an inclusive and accessible space for community access. Aside from the daily activity schedule, there is a library, arts and crafts room, games room and a quiet room available to community members at all times. We also provide a clothing swap rack and share groceries to help provide for our communities needs. Community members can participate in various activities or they use the space to socialise, read, study, get away and connect with people with similar experiences of marginalisation and social isolation. The Community Centre offers a meeting room, which can be hired for a small fee where Special Interest groups can gather, meet and utilise the resources of the Drop In Care Space. We also facilitate and host monthly events for the community to gather, fundraise and showcase their skills. The Drop in Care Space can be described as a third home when it is difficult to be at home, and too difficult to be out, then there is the third home- the Drop in Care Space, where individuals are welcome to be their authentic selves in a safe and affirming environment.
