Mission Statement
THE VOICE OF YOUTH EXPRESSED THROUGH INTELLIGENT AND CHALLENGING THEATRE. Canberra Youth Theatre is one of Australia’s leading youth arts companies, empowering young people through theatre productions, workshops, and creative pathways to challenge, reflect, and transform our perspectives of the world.
About This Cause
Canberra Youth Theatre is one of Australia’s leading youth arts companies, creating intelligent and challenging theatre that champions the voice of youth. Embedded in our community for over 50 years, we are a driver of change through a dynamic artistic vision and philosophical approach of inclusive, youth-centred arts practice. We provide a safe space for young and emerging artists to connect and thrive through an engagement with artistic projects; treating them as legitimate collaborators, and empowering them with agency to create and lead. We produce powerful theatre where young artists ignite critical conversations, inviting us to see the world from new perspectives. Our projects showcase the best of what youth theatre can offer, challenging audiences’ expectations about what theatre created by young people can achieve. We work at the highest professional level, acknowledging that young artists are capable of excellence regardless of age, personal challenges, and circumstances. Donations to Canberra Youth Theatre The project will remove financial barriers to participation in arts programs, and have a positive impact on the mental health and resilience of participants. The financial barriers experienced by many young people to access the arts excludes them from participation. Donations will increase inclusion for those experiencing financial difficulties. Participants will be given opportunities to participate in a safe and inclusive environment, and develop essential, transferable skills, including creativity, problem solving, communication, socialisation and empathy. Participants will work with young people from different schools and backgrounds, nurture friendships, as well as be given the skills to build confidence, concentration, language skills, and their emotional intelligence.
