Mission Statement

Many companies ignore the stringent privacy laws in Europe. This is possible, because it is too complicated and expensive for individual users to claim their rights. noyb closes the gap between law and the reality by collectively enforcing data protection laws, so that your rights become reality.

About This Cause

In May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force, establishing new enforcement mechanisms and ushering in a new era of data protection in the EU. But yet, many companies ignore Europe’s strict privacy laws. They take advantage of the fact that, a lot of times, it is too complicated and expensive for individual users to enforce their fundamental rights, and that any procedures initiated against them take a very long time to be resolved. The GDPR grants users the right to mandate NGOs to represent them before a data protection authority or in court in individual cases. This is where noyb comes into play: We use targeted and strategic litigation to enforce the right to privacy of people across Europe. In addition, we make use of PR and media initiatives to draw attention to the multitude of privacy issues and strengthen your rights even without having to go to court. So far, noyb has filed more than 850 cases against numerous intentional infringements - including companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook, Spotify and Amazon. More than 5,100 supporting members fund the work of noyb.
