About This Cause
Disability Rights Agenda is an organization led by persons with disabilities that aims to promote, protect, and monitor the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in the Republic of Armenia. One of DRA's primary goals is to influence policy development and implementation at national and local levels. The organization closely monitors government policies and legislation related to disability rights, deinstitutionalization, and mental health, providing comprehensive recommendations for improvement. Serving as a watchdog organization, DRA monitors the implementation of disability-related laws and policies across Armenia. The organization conducts research, collects data, and provides regular reports on the status of disability rights in the country. In cases of disability rights violations, DRA raises awareness, advocates for change, and pursues legal remedies, working to hold the government accountable for upholding rights. DRA also focuses on public awareness-raising to foster a better understanding of disability rights and challenge negative attitudes and stereotypes, particularly concerning persons with psychosocial disabilities. The organization is dedicated to increasing accessibility and inclusion in all areas of Armenian society, including education, employment, healthcare, and public spaces. In 2024 alone, DRA supported over 500 people across Armenia by providing legal services and access to the courts, offered home-based psychological support to 150 refugees with disabilities, and facilitated access to assistive devices for 40 individuals. DRA developed more than 400 recommendations for legal documents and policies, initiated Armenia's first case of disability-based discrimination, and trained approximately 400 people on disability inclusion and accessibility. The organization also produced 5 detailed reports and 10 resource guides for various stakeholders, solidifying its commitment to advocating for persons with disabilities and promoting a more inclusive Armenian society. The organization strives for positive change, accountability from policymakers, and empowerment for persons with disabilities in Armenia.
