Mission Statement
SOS Armenia is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation which acts as officially registered Armenian Charity Foundation. SOS Armenia is one of the Member Associations with the status of an affiliated member of SOS Kinderdorf International. In 1990 SOS Children’s Villages was founded in Armenia as representative office of SOS Kinderdorf International and started its activities in response to the devastating earthquake of December 1988. In 1998 it was registered as local NGO and on 12th of June 2003 was reorganised as local foundation. The first SOS Children’s Villages in Armenia was established in Kotayk province located 25 kilometers from Yerevan (the capital city). Since then the organisation has extended its geographic representation and programmebasis through implementing Family Strengthening and Advocacy projects. In 2010 the second SOS Children’s Village was established in Tavush province. Currently SOS Armenia implements its programs in four administrative entities (Provinces) of the country having the following program portfolio: - 5 Family Strengthening Programs providing comprehensive support to families and children living in difficult life circumstances - 2 SOS Children’s Villages and 3 Youth Care Centers providing family based long term care and protection among overall 215 children and youngsters without parental care - Short term placement in two Children’s Villages capable to provide support for 24 children simultaneously at verge of losing parental care - Mother and Child Shelter in Kotayk Children’s Village with a capacity to provide shelter to 8 children with their mothers simultaneously. - Employment and economical sustainability project to support vulnerable families. - Advocacy project – bring positive and long lasting changes and improvements in the field of child welfare. Current framework of SOS Armenia covers the following activities: a. Long-term family based care to 136 children/youth devoid of paretal care. - 2 children’s villages in Kotayk and Tavush Provinces. - 2 youth facilities in Yerevan. b. Short-term placement for 14 children living in crisis situation. c. Family strengthening services to 1675 children from 765 families. - 2 Family Strengthening Projects in Yerevan. - 2 Family Strengthening Project in Tavush. - 1 Family Strengthening Project in Kotayk. d. Advocacy on child rights on local and national level. e. Employment and economical sustainability project In Yerevan to support vulnerable families. f. Employment and entrepreneurship for disadvantaged youth․
About This Cause
With a vision that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security, SOS Children’s Villages Armenian Charity Foundation (hereinafter SOS Armenia) builds families for children in need, helps them shape their own futures, and share in the development of their communities. “SOS-Children’s Villages” Armenian Charity Foundation is a non-profit, non-Governmental organisation aimed at supporting the children without parental care and children of families in difficult circumstances. The organisation was founded in 1989 in response to the devastating earthquake of December 1988. In 1990 Children’s Village in Kotayk opened its doors for the children who had lost their parents as a result of it. It was the first SOS children’s village in the territory of post-soviet countries. SOS Kindergarten was built in 1994 to provide preschool quality education for children from SOS families and the neighbouring communities. In 2001 the first Youth Facility was established in Yerevan and in the following years two more Youth Care Facilities were founded. In 2009, the second children’s village of Armenia was established in Idjevan. Today, the activity of the SOS Children’s Villages Armenian Charity Foundation includes the child care and family strengthening community services, as well as a wide range of educational projects. Besides, the foundation is involved in improvement of child protection system through implementation of national programmes.
