Mission Statement
ISA is one of the leading environmental and indigenous organizations in Brazil and acts regional, nationally and globally to defend indigenous peoples, traditional communities, human rights and cultural heritage, valuing the socio-environmental diversity of Brazil.
About This Cause
Today in Brazil, more than ever, the rights of indigenous peoples and the protection of our forests are under threat. We have been working for 25 years on a new development model for the country which will respect both indigenous peoples and the environment. Contribute and resist with us. We have been working for over 25 years to achieve a balance between society and nature, and to give value to our rich socio-environmental biodiversity. We work side by side with indigenous, quilombola and extractivist communities, who are our historical partners, to develop projects which protect their territories, strengthen their culture and traditional knowledge, raise their political profile and develop sustainable economic alternatives to the predatory exploitation of their lands. We have permanent teams and offices in four Amazon states and long term commitments with partners in the Xingu and Rio Negro regions. ISA monitors and acts on public policies daily. We maintain the largest databases of information on territories, indigenous populations in Brazil and Conservation Units. We are the point of reference for the worldwide press, researchers and governments! Our team in Brasilia works with the Legislative, Executive and Judicial powers, using qualified information which broadens public debate and contributes to decision-making on indigenous and environmental policy. Through advocacy we mobilize various segments of society to strengthen forest protection and the rights of indigenous peoples and other traditional populations in Brazil. More than ever, we need to repel the destruction of the forest and preserve our future. The protection of the Amazon is essential to human survival worldwide. Together, we are building sustainable development solutions which safeguard forest peoples’ rights, as well as protecting the environment. Join us!
