Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote the social inclusion of children and adolescents with physical disabilities and living in a social economic vulnerable situation, by means of neuromotor rehabilitation.

About This Cause

The Associação Mineira de Reabilitação (AMR) is a philanthropic, non-profit institution that has been committed for 58 years to promoting the social inclusion of children and adolescents with physical disabilities and in social vulnerability, through neuromotor rehabilitation. In 1964, Dr. Márcio de Lima Castro, a physician and rehabilitation specialist, after returning from specialized courses abroad, brought a new vision of the neuromotor rehabilitation process of childhood and adolescence. From this experience, he designed a center for treatment of physical and neurological rehabilitation in children, due to the large number of children with sequelae of Polio (Infantile Paralysis), many with restricted financial conditions and without access to adequate treatment. In this context, Dr. Márcio idealized the AMR, with the support of a team of physical medicine, rehabilitation doctors and other partners. The AMR's constitution meeting took place on July 27, 1964, with the approval of the entity's statute, election of members of the Superior Council and Director, and registration in the Registry Office of Legal Entities. Since the conception of AMR, all rehabilitation treatment has been offered free of charge to children and adolescents (0 to 18 years old) from families living in situations of social vulnerability. In Minas Gerais, we are a reference in interdisciplinary care, with specialized professionals in areas such as Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Sports Therapy, Music Therapy, Nutrition, Dentistry, Pediatrics, Neurology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Gastroenterology, and Otorhinolaryngology. In addition to health services, which include surgeries funded by AMR, families receive support from Social Services, school monitoring, therapeutic equipment (e.g. lower and upper limb orthoses, wheelchairs, etc.), as well as the monthly delivery of diapers and food baskets. Currently, approximately 500 families from Belo Horizonte (residents in all 9 regions) and the Metropolitan Region are served at the institution. All AMR's actions are committed to the cause of "Rehabilitating to transform lives" and are based on the values of Ethics, Innovation, Volunteerism, Excellence, Integrity, Humanization, Sustainability, and Social Responsibility. In addition, the institution's vision is to become a national reference in the neuromotor rehabilitation segment of children and adolescents in a sustainable way by 2025. In light of this ideology, AMR constantly invests in the development of integrated actions and services in the area of neuromotor rehabilitation, scientific research, and professional training in health through the institution's Teaching and Research Center, with a focus on social inclusion, improvement in the quality of life, and functionality of the target audience. Due to the excellent work developed, in 2022, AMR was recognized as one of the 100 best NGOs in Brazil, as well as the best NGO in the country's Health segment by the initiative Melhores ONGs. The Melhores ONGs is held by the Doar Institute in partnership with The World We Want and supported by Ambev. Its objective is to celebrate the good management, governance, transparency, communication, and financing practices adopted by Civil Society Organizations. Also in 2022, AMR received the award José Costa 2022 - Diário do Comércio, in the Quality of Life and Well-Being category. In 2021, AMR received certification in the A+ category of the Selo Doar and was consecrated in 1st place in the IX Republic Award for the valorization of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, in the Social Responsibility category, with the Adapted Radical Sports Project. All these achievements reinforce our commitment to rehabilitate and transform lives! In this link you can check the AMR institutional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGiXqyk-hRY
