Mission Statement

Our mission is that of nurturing minds and shaping the future for community regeneration and transformation.

About This Cause

Centre for Youth and Sustainable Development was founded in 2019 under Cameroon’s 1990 law relating to the creation and functioning of Associations (registration No. 654/G37/C84/VOL.I/SASC) as a non-profit community-based organization. Our organization was founded to combat the high rate of secondary school dropout among young boys and girls in the Munyenge community. This alarming trend contributes to elevated rates of early pregnancy and childbearing among teenage girls, gender-based violence as well as increased susceptibility to drug abuse among young males. Furthermore, our organization seeks to address the urgent need for educational opportunities to be reinstated in our community. This is particularly crucial due to the ongoing crisis in the English-speaking region of Cameroon, which has disrupted schooling for children in rural areas. CYSD carries out its mission on behalf of its members by; 1. providing a forum for dialogue and exchange among local communities to share ideas, learn, and support each other’s efforts. 2. Helping communities to build their capacity, to more effectively serve their population, especially the poor and marginalized. 3. Acting as a voice or advocate for the cause of the poor and enabling them to be their advocates. 4-Dignity of the Human Person. The objectives of CYSD are to bring together members, foster the spirit of solidarity, unity, self-reliance, and benevolence, assist needy and underprivileged persons in our communities, promote better livelihoods, provide education, workshops to empower the underprivileged, provide good health services to communities through health campaigns, support development in rural communities, and reduce child mortality. Since 2019, CYSD has provided emergency assistance to over 500 inmates at the Buea Central Prison and is presently working in 15 communities to provide basic education, WASH, and Shelter, Income generating activities, medical assistance, Workshops, and training on agroecology techniques. In the face of the Socio-political crisis, CYSD has reached out to over 2,000 households between 2019 and 2023 and assisted them with hygiene kits, school assistance for orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), livelihood assistance for IDPs and micro-projects for community relief groups, we also carry out emergency assistance to improve food and nutrition security.
