About This Cause

CEDA was formed in 1979 when seven inner city school parent councils agreed to work together to form a non-profit organization to build a voice for inner city parents and residents to more effectively address education and community improvement issues. Core funding was provided by the United Way of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg School Division. Its role was to develop the local schools to be a hub of support in the community. Fifty percent of the time was focused on school- based development programs such as adult education, after school and summer programs for students and the other fifty percent of the time addressed community development issues such as housing, safety and employment. Key program themes include: o Building Community Voices o Community Education and Training o Community Action Research o Pathways to Education tutoring and mentoring program
