Mission Statement

To Support and empower women and children to live free from domestic violence.

About This Cause

Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter (CAWES) stands as a beacon of hope for domestic violence survivors in Central Alberta. We offer a sanctuary that provides not just safe housing, but also compassionate risk assessments and thoughtful safety planning. Through our outreach and education efforts, CAWES shines a powerful light on the devastating impact of domestic violence, helping survivors reclaim their lives and empowering women and children to break the cycle of abuse. Our shelter is passionately dedicated to supporting these individuals, and we are embarking on a pivotal journey to expand our capacity by 200%. We are currently raising $2 million to outfit our new shelter, which will allow us to welcome even more families seeking refuge. Every donation to our capital campaign directly contributes to creating a nurturing environment where residents can begin their journey of healing and rebuilding their lives. In just the past year, CAWES provided refuge to over 1,115 women and children. Unfortunately, due to capacity limitations, 712 women and 582 children seeking help had to be turned away. Our new shelter will allow us to extend our reach and embrace more families in need. Your support is the lifeline that helps us create a safe haven where survivors can heal, rebuild their lives, and envision a future free from domestic violence. Together, we can create a brighter, safer tomorrow for these courageous individuals.
