The Kidney Foundation of Canada is the national volunteer organization committed to eliminating the burden of kidney disease through: • Funding and stimulating innovative research for better treatments and a cure; • Providing education and support to prevent kidney disease in those at risk and empower those with kidney disease to optimize their health status; • Advocating for improved access to high quality health care; • Increasing public awareness and commitment to advancing kidney health and organ donation.
About This Cause
Excellent kidney health, optimal quality of life, and a cure for kidney disease For over 50 years, this vision has guided us to be a collaborative, inventive and focused leader in the development of programs, services, research opportunities and awareness campaigns that have had a positive impact on the millions of Canadians living with, or at risk of developing kidney disease. The Foundation's national research program has grown to become one of the most important sources of funding for scientists conducting kidney-related research. We are also committed to providing education, information, and support about kidneys and kidney disease. We are a reliable and trustworthy resource for people with kidney disease and their families. We provide support services such as short-term financial assistance in times of need, peer support to help them cope, and valuable information including webinars, handbooks, brochures, and dietary web tools. The Kidney Foundation stands behind those affected by kidney disease. By championing systemic changes and increasing public awareness of kidney health and organ donation, we are alleviating the burden of kidney disease. Impact-Related Facts Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, every year: • Thousands receive short-term financial assistance; • Tens of thousands educational materials are distributed; • Millions are invested in kidney research; • Thousands access the risk awareness tool Our programs are evolving to ensure funding investments are made in the areas that will have the greatest impact on patients’ lives. these include our peer support program, which offers patients the support of someone who has also experienced kidney failure and can help those who are newly diagnosed get back on their feet and ready to fight back against kidney failure.
