Mission Statement

Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre works with diverse individuals, families and communities to overcome barriers and enhance quality of life. We do this by fostering social inclusion, developing skills and abilities, and collaborating with our partners to facilitate access to a range of flexible and responsive programs and services.

About This Cause

Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) is a charitable, multi-service neighbourhood centre that offers a broad range of recreational, social and capacity-building programs to the southwest Scarborough community. We believe that the full inclusion of persons of different abilities and backgrounds enhances the quality of life for all, and invite our community to partner with us in building a more equitable, caring neighbourhood. For over 35 years, BBNC has played a vital role in the lives of our community's members. From our earliest days running programs out of a storefront location on Kingston Road, to our current location in the Birchmount Community Centre, BBNC has successfully engaged neighbourhood stakeholders to partner with us as we address the changing needs of our community and provide effective programs and services to meet those needs. BBNC is committed to reflecting the changing face of our neighbourhoods which have experienced major growth in diversity in recent years. An increasingly rich, diverse range of our neighbourhood members are newcomers, members of ethno-specific groups and persons for whom English is a second language. Committed as we are to social inclusion, we have multiplied our efforts to reduce access barriers at our centre, increasing our engagement with underserved groups, and developing key partnerships with neighbourhood resources and settlement services. As our community has seen a rise in unemployment related to the recession, we have also mobilized our volunteer program resources to provide more opportunities for community members disadvantaged by underemployment, settlement issues and poverty. As engaged volunteers people enhance work-based skills while they contribute their assets. BBNC and our many supporters continue to foster the development of a healthy caring community in all of its diversity. Everyone has strengths to offer, so we welcome residents of all backgrounds and abilities to join hands with us in this vital community building work.
