Mission Statement
Silver Creek is a specialized, integrated, therapeutic pre-school serving children with physical and developmental challenges, and their families. We provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language and music therapy, within a creative and caring early learning classroom environment. Evidence based practices are employed and goals created so that children achieve success as defined by each child and family.
About This Cause
Silver Creek Centre for Early Learning & Development is a specialized therapeutic pre-school serving children, ages 18 months through age 5, with special needs. Silver Creek is a registered charity (10798 0856 RR0001) and raises funds to support equipment needs, transportation, and therapeutic services. At Silver Creek children have access to the following services, as deemed necessary: • Physiotherapy: including kinesio-taping; theratogs; ADP authorization of equipment; and an eclectic use of known therapeutic strategies (NDT, MEDEK, functional, developmental) and approaches. • Occupational Therapy: as above, including a Pathways to Printing program; feeding specialization; and sensory processing programming. • Speech and Language Therapy: provided through Toronto Preschool Speech and Language Services. Assessments, treatment from SLP and/or Communicative Disorders Assistant; referral to Speech Institute, Hanen program, behaviour therapists as required. • Music Therapy: supporting the overall developmental growth of each child, including encouraging social interaction and communication; development of self-awareness and self-regulation; promote relaxation; development of focus and attention to task. • Early Learning Program: staffed by registered ECEs; team teaching approach and program development to support learning outcomes individualized for each child. Therapy and educational assistants support all programming and care of the children. All professionals are registered with their respective College and are members in good standing. Some individual or small group work occurs but we try to reach each child in our play-based program working as an interdisciplinary team, supporting the children within the classroom setting. In this way all individual goals, set in conjunction with our parents, are known and supported by all staff. This allows for the most integrated delivery of services and the achievement of goals in outcome based programming. Orthotic and Seating clinics are also organized to support the equipment needs of children in their homes and community settings. School transition support is provided for children entering the TDSB or TCDSB, or private schools. Children with hearing impairment and blind/low vision are also followed for intervention services by provincial agencies at Silver Creek. We are an inclusive setting and also serve children who are typically developing in a reversely integrated scenario, where 80% of the children in attendance have special needs, and 20% of the children are typically developing. Our vision is to empower children to inspire themselves and others. We are dedicated to working with our families, the community and other professionals to ensure that the unique promise of each child is realized.
