Mission Statement
Founded in 1924, Jewish Free Loan Toronto gives interest-free loans to Jewish residents of Ontario in need. JFLT's mandate comes from the Biblical prohibition against charging interest and from Maimonides' belief that the highest form of charity above which there is no greater is a loan that puts a person on the path to self- sufficiency. As an interest-free loan is a hand up rather than a hand out, all recipients emerge with their dignity and self-respect intact.
About This Cause
Jewish Free Loan Toronto gives interest-free loans to Jewish Ontarians in need. (with the exception of Ottawa that has a Free Loan agency of its own) JFLT's loan portfolio includes Personal Loans up to $8000, Student Loans up to $12,000 and Fertility and Business Loans up to $10,000. All loans require guarantors with the exception of the $1000 loans. JFLT currently has 780 active loans and $2.8 million outstanding.
