Mission Statement
The Toronto Rape Crisis Centre / Multicultural Women Against Rape (TRCC/MWAR) has been providing support to survivors of sexual violence over the past 47 years. Our services include a 24-hour crisis line, individual and group counselling, advocacy and accompaniment, support navigating the legal and medical systems, referrals to a wide range of resources, public education and awareness to end sexual violence.
About This Cause
Survivors Can’t Wait. As the only rape crisis centre in the City of Toronto we represent thousands of diverse survivor experiences, and we are deeply concerned when it comes to education, women and gender diverse people, children, Indigenous communities, and survivors of sexual violence. At TRCCMWAR we have hit a critical point. Survivors of all genders have been waiting for over 12 months to see a counsellor; Survivors have been turned away 50% of the time when requesting someone to accompany them to their sexual assault court proceedings or reporting; Survivors have experienced a significant increase in wait times on our 24 hour crisis line due to an overwhelming increase in calls; And our Volunteers and staff have been pushed to their service provision capacity. Given the increase in discussions regarding sexualized violence in the media, community and society in general we have seen since the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, our current government funding is not enough. In a time where rape crisis centres all over the province are struggling to keep up with the increased demand for support, the government is leaving survivors behind. And this is where you come in. We need your support. Every bit counts. $12 covers the cost of TTC to 2 counselling sessions; $30 covers the cost of food for 1 group session; $50 covers the cost of 1 individual counselling session.
