Mission Statement
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. Our vision is for every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion and are funded mainly by our membership and public donations.
About This Cause
Amnesty International Toronto Organization (AITO) is the coordinating body serving the Amnesty groups, networks, teams and general membership in the greater GTA. Its primary purposes are: 1. Promote communication, linkages, joint campaigning on human rights issues and coordination among local AI groups , networks, teams, campaigns and members. 2. Raise public awareness, educate and involve the community in human rights issues through campaigns, public events, educational material, fundraising, website and merchandising of AI branded goods. 3. To generally promote and protect human rights through assisting in international AI campaigns by letter writing and publicity. 4. Fund and support local AI groups, teams, entities with their human rights activities and AI campaigns and to provide financial support for membership education in human rights issues and campaigns 5. Fundraise to finance purposes 1-4. All of the above is done by volunteers.
