Mission Statement
Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary (AVWS) cares for injured and orphaned wildlife and, once rehabilitated, returns them to their natural environment. For those animals requiring permanent care, AVWS provides a sanctuary that satisfies their biological and behavioural needs.
About This Cause
We receive no government funding and are 100% donor funded. Our work at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary would not be possible without so many selfless volunteers. Your donation makes a difference to wildlife in need – Thank you for your support! Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary (AVWS) is a non-profit, registered charity since 1988 located in Rosseau, Ontario on 465 acres of natural habitat in beautiful Muskoka. AVWS are dedicated to the rescue of injured, sick and orphaned wildlife and once rehabilitated, returning the animals to their natural environment giving them a second chance. Because of their location, they are afforded the unique opportunity of rehabilitating large animal species native to the region such as Moose, Bear and Wolf. AVWS are also one of the few facilities in Canada equipped to accommodate semi-aquatic species such as Beaver and Otter. Aspen Valley provides a permanent home to over 30 animals who have come to us from various situations such as zoo closures, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry seizures or cases where animals have been too habituated for release. The Sanctuary provides a forever home in a natural setting with all that the Muskoka landscape offers. These animals who cannot be released depend on AVWS for their existence. Guided Tours: educational guided tours seek to increase awareness and an appreciation of wildlife by explaining the benefits different species provide to the environment. It is our desire to foster a greater understanding of wildlife and how humans can coexist with them. Come visit AVWS and learn about what can be accomplished together! Photography Tours are also available. School groups are welcome. Tours are by Appointment Only as we are not open to the public. Additional tour information is available on our website.
